Leonard Cure, the black man I mentioned in a post yesterday who was killed

by a sheriff's deputy at a traffic stop sure sounds like a guy who was trying to make the most of his freedom after spending 16 years (~1/3 of his life) behind bars for a crime he didn't commit.

- At 53, he has contemplating going to college
- He gave inspirational talks to high schoolers
- He's described as a "good soul who cared about people...and was getting his life back together"

Sadly, he had just received the settlement from the state in August.

The article below makes a point I also highlighted yesterday:
"The anxiety for people freed after doing time for crimes they didn’t commit can be intense," said Seth Miller, executive director of the Innocence Project of Florida. Miller, who worked to help Cure win freedom, said he’s seen dozens of exonerated clients grapple with “an overarching fear that at any moment the cops are going to come” and take them back to jail or prison.
